On behalf of Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO of Bruce Power, and your colleagues at the Municipal Health and Safety Association (MHSA), I am pleased to invite you to our Health and Safety Leadership Charter Day on Tuesday November 8, 2005, at the Stage West Hotel, 5400 Dixie Road, Mississauga.
Duncan is championing this Canada wide initiative to achieve a breakthrough in Health and Safety and has worked with over 50 CEOs, including some of our countrys most influential leaders. Duncan is hosting this MHSA sponsored event to connect Ontarios senior municipal executives with a growing coalition of leaders. In attendance will be representatives from the Ministry of Labour (MOL) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
The MHSA is the designated safe workplace association for Ontarios Municipalities and Conservation and Housing Authorities. We are pleased to act as facilitator of this important initiative to strengthen the integration of health and safety in Ontario Municipalities. During this event you will join other Mayors, Chairs of Boards, Reeves, Wardens and CAOs in completing an electronic self-assessment to identify your municipalitys safety status. These confidential Safety Profiles will allow you to then voluntarily participate in an information sharing format in the spirit of strengthening best practices between municipalities. This solution-focused initiative will accelerate your overall safety performance and compliance. The workshop will culminate with Municipal and Board delegates receiving a Health and Safety Leadership Charter, which they will be requested to present to their respective Councils or Boards for endorsement. Council and Board support for this initiative will formally recognize your Municipality or Board as a leader in your sector and community.
Enclosed is a list of the Charter Member Organizations who have already signed the charter. The coalition of CAOs will expand as more firms and municipalities learn about this vital initiative. The primary requirement for your involvement is a commitment to participate in learning from and helping others to improve workplace health and safety performance. For further details, please visit our website, www.mhsao.com, for the CEO Health and Safety Leadership Charter Day link.
We would appreciate receiving your confirmation to participate no later than Friday October 7, 2005. Please notify Jenny Khan, Manager, Administrative Service, MHSA, at 905 890 2040, or e-mail, mhsa@bellnet.ca. If you prefer, please complete and fax the attached registration form to 905 890 8010.
Please make plans to attend this important event. I will forward additional details as soon as they are finalized.
W.A. (Bill) Blackborow
