What does this program offer you?


The Violence in the Workplace program powerpoint presentation and related workbook is designed to reinforce and supplement the information provided during the classroom sessions. The individual workbook contains worksheets that will help with the learning process. It is hoped   that this workbook will provide a document that will be of value both during and long after the initial training course.

Program Background

Workplace violence is pervasive throughout workplaces in Canada and the world. This violence can take many forms and have devastating consequences. In order to keep our workplace safe and secure, it is very important to recognize what workplace violence is, the risk factors for workplace violence, and how it can be evaluated and controlled.  

Learning Goal and Objectives

Goal
The participant will be able to recognize, evaluate and control situations that may lead to violence.
Objectives
At the end of the Managing Violence for Municipal Workers program, participants will be able to:

1. Define workplace violence.
2. List the three types of workplace violence.
3. Explain the impact workplace violence has on workers, employers and society.
4. List the legislation that applies to workplace violence in Ontario.
5. Recognize ten risk factors for workplace violence, taking into consideration, people, equipment, materials, environment and process.
6. Describe how to control the hazards of workplace violence, taking into consideration, people, equipment, materials, environment and process.
